Comparing Gamification Models in Higher Education Using Face-to-Face and Virtual Escape Rooms

Santiago Pozo-Sanchez et al.

Summary: Gamification is an effective training model that incorporates active methodologies into the learning process. This study examines the impact of gamified experiences in virtual and face-to-face escape rooms, assessing levels of enjoyment, engagement, creative thinking, proficiency, activation, absence of negative effects, and student performance. The results demonstrate that face-to-face experiences promote fun and engagement, while virtual experiences enhance influence, autonomy, creativity, and exploration. High levels of absorption and absence of negative effects are observed in both environments. Although no significant differences are found in the ratings, positive scores are obtained. Therefore, the choice of the gamified environment should be based on the dimensions and objectives of the learning process.
