Nanoscale visualization of hot carrier generation and transfer at non-noble metal and oxide interface

Ranveer Singh et al.

Summary: The study effectively utilized hot-carriers at the nanoscale and their transfer dynamics from a non-noble metal to a metal oxide interface through real-space photocurrent mapping using local probe techniques and femtosecond transient absorption measurements. The results showed that hot carriers were injected into the metal oxide layer from the TiN layer, indicating efficient electron transfer between the layers and achieving high conversion efficiency for optoelectronic devices.

Carrier selective MoOx/Si heterojunctions: Role of thickness

Ranveer Singh et al.

Summary: This study reveals the influence of MoOx film thickness on the hole-blocking property of heterojunctions and the unique characteristics of the film in preventing hole flow. Experimental results show that a 10 nm-thick MoOx film exhibits the best hole-blocking property, with subsequent treatments affecting its performance to some extent.

Improved photovoltaic performance of CdTe-based solar cells: Roles of using a hole-blocking layer and nanoscale imaging of barrier height at interfaces

Ranveer Singh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that using a hole-blocking layer can increase the efficiency of CdTe solar cells and efficient hole-blocking CdTe-based solar cells have been fabricated. The research findings show that the barrier height decreases after light illumination, with a maximum efficiency of 8.2% achieved on textured-Si substrates.

Femto-second and nanoscale hot carrier dynamics in ZnO/Al2O3/Ag-NWs/FTO heterojunction

Ranveer Singh et al.

Summary: Researchers fabricated a ZnO/Al2O3/silver-nanowires heterostructure and studied the tunneling dynamics of hot carriers via the Al2O3 layer, as well as observed broad light absorption in the heterostructure. This study provides an effective approach for improving the hot carrier injection efficiency in wide band gap materials for use in photovoltaics and photocatalysis applications.

Piezo-phototronic effect enhanced performance of a p-ZnO NW based UV-Vis-NIR photodetector

Zhihao Huo et al.

Summary: ZnO has potential in optoelectronics and energy systems, but its wide bandgap and lack of p-type ZnO have limited its applications. A high-performance photodetector was successfully fabricated using a p-ZnO/Al2O3/n-Si structure, with excellent sensitivity, responsivity, and detectivity, indicating that an insulated Al2O3 layer can enhance carrier separation and collection efficiency. Quantum mechanical tunneling mechanisms and piezo-phototronic effects were utilized to optimize the photodetector's performance.
