Indium sulfide deposited MIL-53(Fe) microrods: Efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium

Linbo Luo et al.

Summary: A Type-II heterojunction was constructed using indium sulfide (In2S3) and MIL-53(Fe) to efficiently reduce Cr(VI) under visible light, accelerating the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. Analysis showed superoxide radicals and electrons played a key role in the reduction of Cr(VI). The structure was stable and maintained high efficiency after multiple cycles.

Surface reconstruction of BiSI nanorods for superb photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction under near-infrared light irradiation

Jin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-efficient and near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive O-doped BiSI (O-BiSI) nanorods were designed using a surface reconstruction strategy. The O-BiSI showed significantly higher Cr(VI) reduction rates compared to pure BiSI under visible, NIR, and AM 1.5G light irradiation. This work provides insights into the surface reconstruction strategy and paves the way toward designing highly efficient photocatalysts for environmental applications.

Preparation and characterization of Bi12TiO20/RGO as high-efficiency photocatalysts for degradation of dye wastewater

Jing Luo et al.

Summary: Bi12TiO20/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composites were successfully synthesized using sol-gel method and hydrothermal treatment. The introduction of RGO enhances charge transfer ability, inhibits recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes, and improves the photocatalytic performance and stability of Bi12TiO20. The composites exhibit high degradation efficiency of organic dye Rhodamine B under visible light.

Influence of selected reactive oxygen species on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 composite coatings processed at low temperature

Alejandra Romero-Moran et al.

Summary: The study established the influence of the crystalline phase and agglomeration degree of TiO2 nanoparticles on photocatalytic hydroxyl radical formation and bacterial inactivation in TiO2/SiO2 composite coatings. A relationship between hydroxyl radicals' formation and charge carrier transfer mechanism between defect levels in SiO2 and TiO2 embedded nanoparticles was established through a simple spectroscopic method. This correlation complements the lack of mechanisms behind the photocatalytic activity in TiO2/SiO2 composites.

Synergistic photocatalytic NO removal of oxygen vacancies and metallic bismuth on Bi12TiO20 nanofibers under visible light irradiation

Hongxia Liu et al.

Summary: Tailoring semiconductors with non-precious metals or defects has shown promise for environmental remediation. In this study, Bi metal and oxygen vacancies (OVs) comodified Bi12TiO20 nanofibers (Bi/BTO) photocatalysts were synthesized, exhibiting higher photocatalytic NO removal activity under visible light. The presence of OVs and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Bi particles contribute to the improved photocatalytic performance, as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy.
