Electric Properties of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes Dispersed in Liquid Crystals and Their Influence on Freedericksz Transitions

Emil Petrescu et al.

Summary: By using a proper dispersion of nanotubes in the liquid crystal sample and a theoretical model, the dielectric permittivities of multiwalled carbon nanotubes are calculated, and their influence on the Freedericksz transition threshold is discussed.

Effect of Liquid Crystalline Host on Structural Changes in Magnetosomes Based Ferronematics

Peter Bury et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of liquid crystalline hosts on structural changes in magnetosomes based on ferronematics using surface acoustic wave (SAW) technique and other measurements. The results show different responses of doped liquid crystals under magnetic and electric fields compared to undoped liquid crystals, with a decrease in threshold field and slight effects on structural changes.

Magnetic Tilting in Nematic Liquid Crystals Driven by Self-Assembly

Martin Haehsler et al.

Summary: Self-assembly is a crucial mechanism for designing multifunctional materials, especially in soft hybrid materials where components of different natures interact to form structures with specific functions. A novel magnetic hybrid material was demonstrated, showing the manipulation of molecular tilt through a delicate balance between topologically-assisted colloidal self-assembly of magnetic nanoparticles and anisotropic molecular interactions in a liquid crystal matrix.

Freedericksz Transitions in 6CB Based Ferronematics-Effect of Magnetic Nanoparticles Size and Concentration

Katarina Zakutanska et al.

Summary: This paper presents results from capacitance measurements on composites of nematic liquid crystal 6CB and spherical iron oxide nanoparticles, showing a decrease in threshold magnetic field with increasing volume concentration of nanoparticles. Estimations based on the results suggest soft anchoring between liquid crystal and nanoparticles.
