The effect of pre-ageing/stretching on the ageing-hardening behavior of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys correlated with Zn/Mg ratio

Yan Zou et al.

Summary: Pre-ageing and pre-stretching can significantly affect the precipitation during artificial ageing in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys, leading to improvements in strength and hardness. The effects of pre-ageing are consistent in enhancing strength, while pre-stretching shows varying effects depending on the alloy composition. Both pre-ageing and pre-stretching are effective ways to reduce PFZ width by promoting precipitation near the grain boundary.

Comparisons of Age Hardening and Precipitation Behavior in 7075 Alloy Under Single and Double-Stage Aging Treatments

Yun Fan et al.

Summary: Various heat treatments were conducted on 7075 alloy in this study to reduce treatment time while achieving similar mechanical properties as the traditional T6 tempered alloy. Hardness tests showed that the double aging treatment and single aging treatment had high similarity in precipitates, mainly consisting of Cr-containing large dispersoids and fine precipitates. Advanced microscopy techniques were used to compare the two treatments.

Effect of thermo-mechanical processing on quench-induced precipitates morphology and mechanical properties in high strength AA7075 aluminum alloy

E. Scharifi et al.

Summary: The research found that the tool temperature significantly affects the strength and microstructure of AA7075 aluminum alloy, causing fundamental changes in microstructure and strain hardening behavior when exceeding a certain temperature limit. At tool temperatures below 200℃, there is only a slight decrease in tensile strength, while above 200℃, there is a significant drop in tensile strength and an increase in the initial strain hardening rate.

Effect of pre-stretching on the mechanical behaviour of three artificially aged 6xxx series aluminium alloys

Henrik Granum et al.

Summary: The study found that pre-stretching affects the mechanical properties of different aluminum alloys, with profiles pre-stretched by 4.0% showing slightly lower yield strength but higher failure strain compared to profiles pre-stretched by 0.5%, with fewer visible cracks. The experimental results matched the predictions made by the nanostructure model NaMo.
