Dietary supplementation with monosodium glutamate enhances milk production by lactating sows and the growth of suckling piglets

Reza Rezaei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of increasing dietary content of glutamate through the addition of monosodium glutamate (MSG) on milk production by lactating sows and the growth of their offspring. The results showed that dietary supplementation with 1-2% MSG enhanced milk production, as well as the milk intake and daily weight gains of the piglets. These findings suggest that dietary supplementation with MSG can support the growth of sow-reared piglets by promoting milk production.

Oxidation of amino acids, glucose, and fatty acids as metabolic fuels in enterocytes of developing pigs

Wenliang He et al.

Summary: This study investigated the oxidation of different substances (amino acids, glucose and fatty acids) as energy sources in enterocytes of developing pigs. The results showed that the oxidation rates of different substrates varied among enterocytes from different age groups of pigs, with amino acids (glutamine, glutamate and aspartate) being the major metabolic fuels for enterocytes of 0-21 day-old pigs.

The ideal protein concept is not ideal in animal nutrition

Guoyao Wu et al.

Summary: Amino acids play a crucial role in the synthesis of proteins and low-molecular-weight substances. While it was previously believed that all amino acids could be sufficiently synthesized in animals, recent studies have shown that certain nonessential amino acids (AASAs) are essential for the growth and health of animals. Therefore, the concept of ideal protein needs to be updated to include all essential amino acids and physiologically required amino acids in animal diets.

The use of BCAA to decrease delayed-onset muscle soreness after a single bout of exercise: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: Research suggests that BCAA may alleviate DOMS caused by EIMD, but there is no consensus on the most effective supplementation protocol. BCAA doses of up to 255 mg/kg/day can reduce DOMS symptoms, with variability due to training status, different doses, time of treatment, and severity of EIMD.
