ACE Gene I/D Polymorphism and Acute Pulmonary Embolism in COVID19 Pneumonia: A Potential Predisposing Role

Cecilia Calabrese et al.

Summary: Recent studies suggest a high risk of thromboembolism in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia, with a potential link to ACE gene polymorphisms. In this pilot study, researchers found a significant difference in ACE I/D polymorphisms between COVID-19 patients with and without pulmonary embolism, indicating a possible genetic susceptibility to thromboembolism in COVID-19.

Mechanistic insights into COVID-19 by global analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro substrate degradome

Isabel Pablos et al.

Summary: Research on the main viral protease of SARS-CoV-2 and its relationship with human protein substrates has revealed a large group of substrates, accelerating the exploration of pathophysiology and drug design. The study also demonstrates the interactions between 3CL(pro) and the Hippo pathway and other key effector proteins in human cells.

Cardiovascular Disease in Chronic Kidney Disease Pathophysiological Insights and Therapeutic Options

Joachim Jankowski et al.

Summary: Patients with chronic kidney disease face an increased risk of cardiovascular events, with advanced CKD stages significantly elevating the risk. Cardiovascular events, rather than end-stage kidney disease, are the leading cause of death in this high-risk population, and CKD causes a proinflammatory state that affects the cardiovascular system.

Association of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme gene polymorphism in Pakistani women with the atypical steroidogenesis in Polycystic ovarian syndrome: A case-control study

Kiran Nazeer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association of ACE gene polymorphism with PCOS in Pakistani women. The results showed that PCOS patients had higher BMI, waist circumference, and hyperandrogenic conditions. While ACE polymorphism was not directly associated with clinical symptoms of PCOS, it may exacerbate the pathogenesis of the disease.

Impact of I/D polymorphism of angiotensin-converting enzyme 1 (ACE1) gene on the severity of COVID-19 patients

Sushma Verma et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the ACE1 genotype may impact the incidence and clinical outcome of COVID-19. DD genotype, frequency of D allele, older age, unmarried status, presence of diabetes and hypertension were significantly higher in severe COVID-19 patients. ACE1 ID genotype was significantly associated with higher socio-economic COVID-19 patients.

Ashwin Kumar Shukla et al.

Summary: COVID-19 has affected more than 26 million individuals worldwide, with patients with diabetes mellitus or other major complications at high risk. ACE2 receptor plays a key role in the virus entry, leading to more severe disease outcomes. Treatment strategies for COVID-19 target either the virus-ACE2 interaction or the human immune system.
