Hind-limb unloading in rodents: Current evidence and perspectives

Anna Hawliczek et al.

Summary: Due to limited biological samples from returning space explorers, alternative models are needed to study spaceflight-related pathophysiology. This review provides an update on the hind-limb unloading model (HLU), which simulates microgravity in rodents. By removing gravitational load from the hind limbs, this model is widely used to study the effects of unloading on cardiovascular and musculoskeletal physiology. The advantages of HLU and its applications in understanding bedrest confinement and spaceflight effects are discussed.

Testicular haemodynamics, plasma testosterone and oestradiol concentrations, and serum nitric oxide levels in the Egyptian buffalo bull after a single administration of human chorionic gonadotropin

Elshymaa A. Abdelnaby

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a single intravenous administration of hCG on testicular artery haemodynamics, plasma steroids, and nitric oxide levels in buffalo bulls. The results showed that hCG had a positive impact on blood flow and hormonal levels in buffalo bulls.

Human physiology adaptation to altered gravity environments

Nandu Goswami et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the physiological effects of gravity level transitions in space exploration missions, emphasizing the need for further research to understand adaptation mechanisms and proposing artificial gravity as a countermeasure. The paper discusses the limited evidence on the effects of partial gravity and advocates for the exploration of artificial gravity in short and very long-arm centrifuges as potential countermeasures. The use of acute short-arm artificial gravity as well as chronic artificial gravity via the H-3 concept are also examined in the context of physiological adaptation during gravity level transitions.

Comparative proteomic analysis of seminal plasma proteins in relation to freezability of Dezhou donkey semen

Jie Yu et al.

Summary: This study utilized a TMT peptide labeling combined with LC-MS/MS approach to identify seminal plasma proteins with different abundances in ejaculates with optimal and suboptimal freezability characteristics. The majority of differentially abundant proteins were found to be involved in metabolic processes and biological regulation. Functional protein analysis suggested that these proteins mainly functioned in oxidoreductase activity and acid phosphatase activity.

Spermatozoa retrieval in azoospermia and expression profile of JMJD1A, TNP2, and PRM2 in a subset of the Karachi population

Sofia Amjad et al.

Summary: This study found that increased mRNA expression of JMJD1A, TNP2, and PRM2 in testicular tissue is associated with a higher probability of successful sperm retrieval in azoospermic patients. Multivariate analysis showed a significant correlation between these genetic markers and successful spermatozoa retrieval.

Mouse and Fly Sperm Motility Changes Differently under Modelling Microgravity

Irina V. Ogneva

Summary: The study shows that simulated microgravity has different effects on the motility of fruit fly and mouse sperm, increasing speed for flies and decreasing speed for mice, potentially mediated through regulation of phosphorylation or dephosphorylation.
