Role of IL-6 in the commitment of T cell subsets

Thomas Korn et al.

Summary: IL-6 plays a critical role in the differentiation and maintenance of Th17 cells and T follicular helper cells, as well as in the induction of Treg cells. Its absence can impair adaptive immune responses to fungi and extracellular bacteria, while its presence is necessary for homeostasis in the gut lamina propria.

Salmonella chitosan nanoparticle vaccine administration is protective against Salmonella Enteritidis in broiler birds

Keila Y. Acevedo-Villanueva et al.

Summary: In this study, the efficacy of a live Salmonella vaccine followed by a killed Salmonella chitosan nanoparticle (CNP) vaccine booster on the cellular and humoral immunity of broilers was evaluated. The results showed increased levels of anti-Salmonella antibodies in vaccinated birds compared to the control group, as well as decreased S. Enteritidis cecal loads. The CNP vaccine did not have adverse effects on bird's growth performance or immune response.

Effects of Salmonella enterica ser. Enteritidis and Heidelberg on host CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cell suppressive immune responses in chickens

Revathi Shanmugasundaram et al.

Summary: The study suggests that Salmonella infection induces an increase in CD4(+)CD25(+) T regulatory cells and enhances IL-10 mRNA transcription, allowing the pathogen to evade host immune responses in chickens.

Evaluation of curcumin and copper acetate against Salmonella Typhimurium infection, intestinal permeability, and cecal microbiota composition in broiler chickens

Anaisa A. Leyva-Diaz et al.

Summary: In recent years, interest in natural feed additives as an alternative to antimicrobials in the poultry industry has increased due to the risk of bacterial resistance. This study evaluated the impact of dietary supplementation of copper acetate (CA), curcumin (CR), and their combination (CA-CR) on Salmonella Typhimurium colonization, intestinal permeability, and cecal microbiota composition in broiler chickens. The results showed that CR treatment was the most effective in reducing S. Typhimurium colonization and maintaining intestinal homeostasis through modulation of cecal microbiota.

Recent Advancement in Chitosan-Based Nanoparticles for Improved Oral Bioavailability and Bioactivity of Phytochemicals: Challenges and Perspectives

Syed Sarim Imam et al.

Summary: The review discusses the loading of phytochemicals in biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticles based on chitosan for improved bioavailability and bioactivity. Chitosan's properties such as mucoadhesiveness, non-toxicity, stability in harsh gastrointestinal conditions, and enhanced intestinal permeability make it suitable for oral delivery of phytochemicals.

Efficacy of a nanoparticle vaccine administered in-ovo against Salmonella in broilers

Keila Acevedo-Villanueva et al.

Summary: The study indicates that in-ovo administration of CNP vaccine in broilers can significantly enhance immune response against SE and reduce SE cecal load. However, there were no significant differences in body weight gain and feed conversion ratio between vaccinated birds and control group.
