Research Note: Orange corn altered the cecal microbiome in laying hens

T. Chang et al.

Summary: Further investigation is needed to determine the impact of carotenoids from different corn sources on the chicken microbiome. This study found that the cecal bacterial community composition differed significantly in chickens fed orange corn compared to white corn, but there was no difference between yellow corn and the other groups.

Microbial Diversity and Community Variation in the Intestines of Layer Chickens

Sha-Sha Xiao et al.

Summary: The study focused on the diversity and community variations in the duodenum, caecum, and colorectum of white Lohmann layer chickens at different time points. It was found that the intestinal microbiota of white Lohmann layer chickens matured at day 50, with unique patterns in the caecum and colorectum as compared to the duodenum. Lactobacillus dominated in the duodenum while Bacteroides, Odoribacter, and Clostridiales vadin BB60 group were dominant in the caecum and colorectum. The research sheds light on the importance of time and spatial factors in shaping the intestinal microbiota composition and provides insights for improving the intestinal health of layer chickens.
