Learning by explaining to oneself and a peer enhances learners' theta and alpha oscillations while watching video lectures

Zhongling Pi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of self-explanation, learning by teaching, and passive viewing strategies in learning from video lectures. Results showed that self-explanation and teaching strategies were more beneficial than passive viewing, leading to higher motivation, engagement, and better learning performance. The teaching strategy also elicited greater neural oscillations related to working memory and attention.
