Culture of SARS-CoV-2 in a panel of laboratory cell lines, permissivity, and differences in growth profile

Nathalie Wurtz et al.

Summary: The study tested 4 locally isolated strains of SARS-CoV-2 on 34 cell lines commonly used for isolating human pathogenic microorganisms, finding that 7 cell lines were able to support virus replication. Results indicate that there are differences in cytopathogenic effects and multiplication abilities in cells with different strains.

Evaluation of 11 DNA Automated Extraction Protocols for the Detection of the 5 Mains Candida Species from Artificially Spiked Blood

Estelle Menu et al.

Summary: The molecular detection of Candida is crucial for diagnosing candidaemia, with the efficiency of yeast DNA extraction significantly impacting the sensitivity of diagnosis. A study on 11 automated DNA extraction procedures showed NucliSENS(TM) easyMAG(TM) to be the most effective method, with varying efficacy for different Candida species. This research highlights the importance of choosing an appropriate DNA extraction method for routine diagnosis of candidaemia in laboratories.

Epidemiological and genetic characterization of measles virus circulating strains at Marseille, France during 2017-2019 measles outbreak

Rita Jaafar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the molecular characteristics of measles virus strains circulating in Marseille, France between 2017 and 2019 using Next Generation sequencing. The analysis revealed multiple genotypes of MeV circulating in the region, with measles cases primarily affecting children under 5 years old and adults between 30-50 years old. Vaccinated individuals also experienced infection and complications in some cases. This study highlights the importance of genomic characterization and the need for reevaluation of measles vaccination strategies.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the morbidity and mortality patterns of children at the Thai Binh Paediatric Hospital in Vietnam, with a focus on infectious diseases. Infectious diseases accounted for the majority of cases, with lower respiratory tract infections being the most common. Over 80% of patients received antibiotics, most patients were hospitalized for less than 15 days, and the discharge rate with a favorable outcome was 87.8%.
