Association of Influenza Vaccination With Cardiovascular Risk A Meta-analysis

Bahar Behrouzi et al.

Summary: This study found that influenza vaccination is associated with a lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, especially for patients with recent acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Providing influenza vaccination to high-risk patients is of great importance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effect of High-Dose Trivalent vs Standard-Dose Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine on Mortality or Cardiopulmonary Hospitalization in Patients With High-risk Cardiovascular Disease A Randomized Clinical Trial

Orly Vardeny et al.

Summary: In patients with high-risk cardiovascular disease, high-dose trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine did not significantly reduce all-cause mortality or cardiopulmonary hospitalizations compared with standard-dose quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine, but influenza vaccination remains strongly recommended in this population.

Effects of Influenza Vaccine on Mortality and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: The study found that influenza vaccination in patients with cardiovascular disease is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and major adverse cardiovascular events. However, it did not show a significant reduction in the risk of myocardial infarction compared to the control group.

Influenza vaccination: a 'shot' at INVESTing in cardiovascular health

Ankeet S. Bhatt et al.

Summary: The link between viral respiratory infections and organ-specific injuries, such as cardiac injury, has become more recognized during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies have shown that there is no significant difference between high-dose and standard-dose influenza vaccines in reducing cardiopulmonary events and mortality in high-risk cardiovascular patients. Vaccination against influenza remains important in reducing morbidity in high-risk patients with cardiovascular disease, especially given its favorable risk-benefit profile and low cost.

Influenza Vaccination After Myocardial Infarction: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter Trial

Ole Frobert et al.

Summary: This study found that early influenza vaccination after myocardial infarction or in patients with high-risk coronary heart disease significantly reduced the risk of death, myocardial infarction, or stent thrombosis, and also decreased the risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular death within 12 months compared to placebo.

Evaluation of a Clinical Decision Support Strategy to Increase Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Among Hospitalized Children Before Inpatient Discharge

Evan W. Orenstein et al.

Summary: This study aimed to increase the proportion of hospitalized children receiving seasonal influenza vaccine through a clinical decision support strategy. The results showed that user-centered interventions were associated with significantly improved influenza vaccination rates among hospitalized children. Stepwise implementation of these interventions was found to be effective in comparison with historical and concurrent controls.

Racial and geographic disparities in influenza vaccination in the U.S. among individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: Renewed importance in the setting of COVID-19

Mahmoud Al Rifai et al.

Summary: This study shows that only 50% patients with ASCVD receive influenza vaccines. The receipt of influenza vaccination among individuals with ASCVD is lower among Blacks and Hispanics compared to Whites with significant state-level variation. Important socioeconomic determinants are associated with receipt of the influenza vaccine, such as age, education, income, and healthcare access.
