Trans-arterial chemoembolization with degradable starch microspheres (DSM-TACE) versus selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) in multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma

Timo A. Auer et al.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with degradable starch microspheres (DSM-TACE) versus selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) in patients with multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma. The results showed that DSM-TACE might be an alternative to SIRT as there were no significant differences in overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local tumor control (LTC), and comparable toxicity profiles between the two therapies.

Personalised versus standard dosimetry approach of selective internal radiation therapy in patients with locally advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (DOSISPHERE-01): a randomised, multicentre, open-label phase 2 trial

Etienne Garin et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of personalized versus standard dosimetry in selective internal radiation therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, showing that personalized dosimetry significantly improved the objective response rate. The results suggest that personalized dosimetry may enhance outcomes in clinical practice and should be considered for future trials.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Selective Internal Radiotherapy With Yttrium-90 Versus Sorafenib in Locally Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Kathryn E. Marqueen et al.

Summary: The comparison of cost-effectiveness between selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) and sorafenib for locally advanced hepatocellular carcinoma in the US healthcare sector showed that although sorafenib had a higher cost, there was not much difference in quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) compared to SIRT. Sorafenib is unlikely to be economically attractive unless its price decreases by more than 50%.
