Mutations and clinical significance of calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha 1E (CACNA1E) in non-small cell lung cancer

San-Hui Gao et al.

Summary: CACNA1E gene mutations are associated with non-small cell lung cancer, with high expression correlating with poor prognosis. Overexpression or mutation of CACNA1E promotes NSCLC cell proliferation, while gene silencing inhibits proliferation, suggesting that this protein is essential for NSCLC cell proliferation.

Nivolumab and Ipilimumab as Maintenance Therapy in Extensive-Disease Small-Cell Lung Cancer: CheckMate 451

Taofeek K. Owonikoko et al.

Summary: Maintenance therapy with nivolumab plus ipilimumab did not prolong overall survival (OS) for patients with extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer (ED-SCLC) who did not progress on first-line chemotherapy. However, there may be a benefit of nivolumab plus ipilimumab in patients with a tumor mutational burden of >= 13 mutations per megabase. The rates of grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse events were highest in the nivolumab plus ipilimumab group.

Screening the key genes of prognostic value in the microenvironment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Di Meng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify key genes related to the tumor microenvironment for predicting the prognosis of HNSCC patients. Through analysis of gene expression, clinical data, and immune/stromal/ESTIMATE scores, several genes such as ADGRG7, CSN3, CST8, KRT81, MUC7, MYH6, and SEZ6 were found to be closely associated with patient survival. Protein-protein interaction analysis revealed POSTN and OGN as crucial genes modulating the tumor microenvironment and biology in HNSCC.

Long interspersed nuclear element-1 hypomethylation is associated with poor outcomes via the activation of ST18 in human hepatocellular carcinoma

Yu Rim Lee et al.

Summary: In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), LINE-1 hypomethylation was found to be an independent risk factor for poor prognosis, potentially influencing tumor development by activating oncogenes. Additionally, the expression of suppression of tumorigenicity 18 was correlated with LINE-1 methylation levels and may play a role in the development of HCC.

Profiling of 520 Candidate Genes in 50 Surgically Treated Chinese Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients

Ting Yuan et al.

Summary: The study analyzed tumor tissues from 50 Chinese SCLC patients, detecting frequent mutations in TP53, RB1, LRP1B, among others. Comparing Chinese SCLC to Cologne and MSKCC, higher mutation frequencies were found in NOTCH2, JAK2, and CDK12. High TMB and mutations in genes like LRP1B were associated with improved prognosis, showing the potential for diagnosis and treatment in Chinese SCLC patients.
