Electronic-beam evaporation processed titanium oxide as an electron selective contact for silicon solar cells

Vladyslav Matkivskyi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential improvement of using e-beam evaporation technology for TiOx material in solar cells, despite its lower performance compared to the ALD method. The research establishes a correlation between the main process parameters of e-beam evaporation and the quality of TiOx layer, as well as shows a significant decrease in contact resistance of the TiOx passivation layer.

A novel passivating electron contact for high-performance silicon solar cells by ALD Al-doped TiO2

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the application of aluminum-doped TiO2 thin films (ATO) in high-efficiency silicon solar cells. The ATO thin films were successfully prepared and their properties, including elemental analysis, thermal stability, and optical properties, were systematically studied. High effective minority carrier lifetime and low contact resistivity were achieved on silicon wafers, highlighting ATO as a promising alternative for high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells.

Electron-Selective Contact for GaAs Solar Cells

Vidur Raj et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an alternative device structure for GaAs solar cells using zinc oxide as an electron-selective contact, achieving an efficiency of 18.5% with the potential for further optimization to over 25%. Detailed analysis shows higher efficiency and carrier selectivity compared to homojunction cells grown under similar conditions, while also reducing the complexity and cost of epitaxially grown cells.

Role of the Cu-Deficient Interface in Cu(In, Ga)Se2 Thin-Film Photovoltaics with Alkali-Metal Doping

Shogo Ishizuka et al.

Summary: The thickness of the Cu-deficient surface layer (CDL) significantly affects the photovoltaic device performance, with alkali-metal doping showing beneficial effects on CDL and enhancing photovoltaic efficiency. Additionally, alkali-halide RbF postdeposition treatment (PDT) can lead to either enhancement or degradation of device performance depending on the thickness of CDL.

On the Importance of Joint Mitigation Strategies for Front, Bulk, and Rear Recombination in Ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells

Tomas S. Lopes et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the simultaneous implementation of potassium fluoride (KF) post-deposition treatment (PDT) and a rear interface passivation strategy on ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se-2 (CIGS) solar cells for the first time. Electrical measurements and simulations suggested that under specific conditions, devices with only KF-PDT treatment may outperform those with rear interface passivation alone. By combining KF-PDT and rear interface passivation, there was a significant enhancement in open-circuit voltage and reduction in recombination losses, leading to improved charge carrier lifetime in the studied devices.
