Impact of Cu-deficient p-n heterointerface in CuGaSe2 photovoltaic devices

Shogo Ishizuka

Summary: The study found that the presence of Cu-deficient phases in chalcopyrite CuGaSe2 significantly increases the open-circuit voltage of photovoltaic devices. Additionally, using a thicker n-CdS layer can effectively improve the short-circuit current density and open-circuit voltage in CGS devices with a thick Cu-deficient layer, offering unique routes for enhancing device performance.

Enhancement of the photoelectrochemical properties of a CuGaSe2-based photocathode for water reduction induced by loading of a Cu-deficient layer at the p-n heterointerface

Shigeru Ikeda et al.

Summary: The study found that loading an appropriate thickness of the Cu-deficient layer (CDL) on the top part of the CuGaSe2 film can achieve a larger current flow and relatively positive photocurrent onset, effectively improving the photocathode activity. The half-cell solar-to-hydrogen efficiency reached 6.6% over the best photocathode, while the photocathode based on the CuGaSe2 film with an extremely thick CDL and a relatively thick CdS layer achieved the highest photocurrent onset potential.
