Simulation of rainfall-runoff process using an artificial neural network (ANN) and field plots data

Vahid Gholami et al.

Summary: In this study, an artificial neural network was used to simulate rainfall-runoff processes in the Talar basin in northern Iran. By utilizing field sampling data, rainfall data, and hydrometric data, the modeling successfully simulated runoff time series and flood processes for basins without active hydrometric stations.

Policy-Making toward Integrated Water Resources Management of Zarrine River Basin via System Dynamics Approach under Climate Change Impact

Aida Hosseini Baghanam et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-criteria decision-making approach was used to comprehensively examine the water supply requirements in the Zarrine River Basin in northwest Iran. The impacts of climate change were analyzed, and the future runoff was predicted using an Artificial Neural Network model. The System Dynamics model was then employed to simulate different scenarios and assess the water balance. The results highlighted the increase in temperature and decrease in precipitation due to climate change, which greatly affects the water demand and availability. The combination of multiple scenarios showed effective performance in managing reduced runoff under climate change.

Impact assessment of reservoir operation in the context of climate change adaptation in the Chao Phraya River basin

Saritha Padiyedath Gopalan et al.

Summary: The study shows that reservoir operation can help reduce the impact of climate change to some extent, but cannot fully control future high flows, requiring additional adaptation measures. Combining reservoir operation with afforestation is also insufficient in offsetting the effects of climate warming.

System dynamics to assess the effectiveness of restoration scenarios for the Urmia Lake: A prey-predator approach for the human-environment uncertain interactions

Seyed Ershad Barhagh et al.

Summary: This study models restoration scenarios of Urmia Lake using a system dynamics method based on the prey-predator approach and finds that agricultural water consumption has the most significant impact on the lake volume. Decreasing irrigated land area, improving irrigation efficiency, reducing lake area, and inter-basin water transfer all contribute to increasing the lake water level.
