Participation of Brinjal Farmers in Large and Small Wholesale Markets: Factors Influencing Farmers' Decisions and Impact on Producers' Prices

Masud Rana et al.

Summary: This research explores the factors influencing farmers' decisions to participate in large wholesale markets and estimates the impact of this participation on producer prices in Jashore and Narsingdi districts of Bangladesh. The study finds that factors such as years of schooling, farm size, distance to the market, road quality, access to extension services, market information, group marketing, trust-based credit, yield, and transportation cost are significantly associated with the decision to participate in a large wholesale market. Additionally, the study consistently shows that participating in a large wholesale market has a positive effect on producer prices. Therefore, the study suggests that the government should adopt comprehensive strategies to increase small-scale farmers' participation in large wholesale markets and improve their welfare.

Summary: The study reveals that existing adaptation practices are limited to traditional seed storage and a few engineering techniques, and both household and farm characteristics significantly influence farmers' adaptation to flooding. Prioritizing crop insurance and revitalizing existing adaptation measures are suggested in order to cope with future floods.

Evaluating the Impact of Large-Scale Agricultural Investments on Household Food Security Using an Endogenous Switching Regression Model

Wegayehu Fitawek et al.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate the effects of large-scale agricultural investments on household food security in Kenya, Madagascar, and Mozambique. Results showed that households with members employed by LSAIs had better food security and dietary diversity, but the low wages provided by LSAIs may only support food purchases and not significantly improve food security through savings and investments.
