Factors influencing integrated information management: Spatial data infrastructure in Pakistan

Asmat Ali et al.

Summary: This study investigates the barriers to establishing a national spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in Pakistan. Through a questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, the study identifies institutional barriers such as the absence of a national data policy, lack of specified roles for stakeholders, poor inter-organizational coordination, missing data-sharing policy, and weak organizational partnerships.

Forest Road Detection Using LiDAR Data and Hybrid Classification

Sandra Bujan et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of a new hierarchical-hybrid classification tool HyClass for mapping paved and unpaved forest roads using LiDAR data, as well as identifying bare-earth and low-lying vegetation. By conducting research in a rural landscape in northwestern Spain, the HyClass tool based on decision tree integration with segmentation processes at local scale yielded a high overall accuracy of 96.5% and showed improvement in road mapping precision over pixel-based classification using Random Forest.

Lessons learned from participatory land use planning with high-resolution remote sensing images in Tanzania: Practitioners' and participants' perspectives

Salla Eilola et al.

Summary: Participatory mapping is increasingly utilized in data scarce regions like Africa to capture local knowledge and enhance collaborative planning. While high-resolution remote sensing imagery based PM methods improve work quality and spatial understanding, technical challenges and lack of skilled experts and institutional support remain common limitations. Advocacy among policymakers for participatory decision-making and geospatial technologies is crucial to promote ownership of new governance practices.

Sustainability and branchless banking: The development and validation of a distinct measurement scale

Muhammad Zahid et al.

Summary: The study developed and validated a new scale for measuring the sustainability and development of branchless banking, identifying seven factors including social sustainability, product responsibility, economic sustainability, labor practices and decent work, environmental sustainability, human rights and ethics, and branchless banking development. The results indicated a positive impact of human rights and ethics, labor practices and decent work, product responsibility, and social sustainability on the development of branchless banking.

A Mixed-Methods Investigation into Barriers for Sharing Geospatial and Resilience Flood Data in the UK

Luke Waterman et al.

Summary: By 2050, more UK households are expected to face flooding risks with increasing average temperature and rainfall. Data and technologies are crucial across public, private, and third-sector organizations, but barriers and constraints exist in sharing data due to local politics, organizational structures, and various obstacles such as technological, security, privacy, cultural, and commercial factors. Long-term recommendations are provided to improve flood data accessibility and enhance outcomes for organizations and communities.

Accuracy Comparison on Culvert-Modified Digital Elevation Models of DSMA and BA Methods Using ALS Point Clouds

Nadeem Fareed et al.

Summary: This study introduces a newly developed drainage structure mapping algorithm (DSMA) to obtain culvert-modified DEMs and compares its performance with the breach algorithm (BA) method using benchmark DS data. The results show that the DSMA-based culvert-modified DEMs are more accurate, and the methodological framework for producing culvert-modified DEMs using DSMA-based DS data is robust.

Geological Effects on Water Quality: A Review of Issues and Challenges in Malaysia

Terfa E. Garba et al.

Summary: The main challenges associated with deteriorating water quality in Peninsular Malaysia stem from industrialization, urbanization, and activities such as mining, agriculture, and industrial activities introducing heavy metals and microbial contamination to groundwater sources. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive understanding of land-use changes and hydrogeological factors.
