Learning to teach climate change: students in teacher training and their progression in pedagogical content knowledge

Summary: Climate change adaptation is a wicked problem that requires extensive knowledge and high-quality education to address. Pre-service teachers in the interdisciplinary course EduChange developed their content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge through training, exploration of climate change issues, and educational design, but the effectiveness of their lessons in addressing wicked characteristics varied.

Climate change education and communication in global review: tracking progress through national submissions to the UNFCCC Secretariat

Summary: Despite recent commitments to advancing climate change education and communication internationally, there is still a lack of global data for tracking country progress. The analysis of 377 submissions to the UNFCCC Secretariat showed gaps in content suitable for monitoring purposes, with a focus on cognitive knowledge over affective and action-oriented approaches. Regional variations were also found, with European countries including more content related to ACE elements and SDG indicator components on average.
