Modelling and estimation of system reliability under dynamic operating environments and lifetime ordering constraints

Chunling Luo et al.

Summary: A statistical model is proposed to evaluate system reliability by considering correlated component lifetimes and lifetime ordering constraints. The effects of dynamic environments are incorporated using an exponential dispersion process, and lifetime ordering constraints are modeled by truncating the joint lifetime distribution support. Statistical inference is discussed based on the proposed model, with point estimates obtained using maximum likelihood and confidence intervals constructed using generalized pivots. Extensive simulations demonstrate accurate coverage of the proposed interval estimation procedures even under small sample sizes. Two real examples are used to illustrate the proposed modeling and estimation framework.

Climate Change Affects Crop Production Potential in Semi-Arid Regions: A Case Study in Dingxi, Northwest China, in Recent 30 Years

Qiong Jia et al.

Summary: Climate factors have a significant impact on crop production potential in the arid and semi-arid regions of northwest China. Precipitation plays a more important role than other climate factors in improving crop production potential. Although there are positive correlations, actual crop yields do not have a significant relationship with crop production potential.

Short-Term Streamflow Forecasting Using Hybrid Deep Learning Model Based on Grey Wolf Algorithm for Hydrological Time Series

Huseyin Cagan Kilinc et al.

Summary: The effects of developing technology and rapid population growth on the environment have highlighted the importance of water management. In this study, a hybrid model based on the grey wolf algorithm and gated recurrent unit was proposed for streamflow forecasting. The accuracy and success of the model were compared to benchmark models using different statistical indexes. The results showed that the GWO-GRU hybrid model outperformed the benchmark models, demonstrating its successful application in streamflow forecasting.

Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Variations in Runoff Potential under Changing Climatic Scenarios in Northern Part of Karnataka in India Using Geospatial Techniques

Rejani Raghavan et al.

Summary: The northern dry zone of Karnataka in Southern India is frequently affected by drought, leading to declining groundwater levels. In this study, spatial estimation models were developed using the SCS-CN method and GIS to estimate the runoff potential. The results showed significant spatial variations in rainfall and runoff potential, which were influenced by drought years and changes in rainfall patterns.

Assessing the Effects of Climate Change on Compound Flooding in Coastal River Areas

M. Bermudez et al.

Summary: The study proposes a methodology for evaluating historical and future flooding in coastal river areas, taking into account the complex dependencies and interactions between flood drivers. Results show that while sea level rise is expected to be the main driver of increased flood hazard, climate change effects on river discharge can also play a significant role in regions with compound flooding potential.

Investigating the Propagation From Meteorological to Hydrological Drought by Introducing the Nonlinear Dependence With Directed Information Transfer Index

Zhaoqiang Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the propagation mechanism from meteorological to hydrological drought by introducing the non-linear dependence with DITI, and constructs a new drought response time evaluation system. Results show that the characteristics of meteorological drought events and the sensitivity of hydrological drought to meteorological drought affect the effective drought propagation rate, while the meteorological drought trigger thresholds can influence the duration of hydrological drought events.
