Flexoelectric properties of multilayer two-dimensional material MoS2

Hiroyuki Hirakata et al.

Summary: In this study, the electromechanical response of multilayer 2D material 2H-phase MoS2 was experimentally demonstrated using a piezoresponse force microscope. The deformation response was primarily determined by the electric field gradient, and the findings can guide the realization of ultrathin electromechanical devices.

Torsion of a flexoelectric semiconductor rod with a rectangular cross section

Yilin Qu et al.

Summary: The study examines the torsion of a flexoelectric semiconductor rod with a rectangular cross section using macroscopic theory. The results show that torsional waves are essentially non-dispersive, while warping waves are dispersive with a cutoff frequency, indicating the presence of electromechanical couplings in the system.

Excitons in Bilayer MoS2 Displaying a Colossal Electric Field Splitting and Tunable Magnetic Response

Etienne Lorchat et al.

Summary: van der Waals heterostructures composed of transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers have rich excitonic properties due to the hosting of electrons and holes in different materials, forming highly tunable dipolar many-particle complexes. Despite the usually quenched exciton oscillator strength in spatially indirect excitons, slightly biased pristine bilayer MoS2 hosts strongly dipolar excitons with preserved oscillator strength. Further analysis of their giant dipole moment and orbital/valley physics is done through biased-magnetic field measurements.

Improved low-frequency noise in CVD bilayer MoS2 field-effect transistors

Qingguo Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, the low-frequency noise characteristics of single-crystal bilayer MoS2 grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) were systematically investigated and found to offer significant performance improvements compared with those based on monolayer MoS2. The results demonstrate that CVD bilayer MoS2 is a promising candidate for future large-scale 2D-semiconductor-based electronic applications with improved noise performance.

Phonon renormalization in reconstructed MoS2 moire superlattices

Jiamin Quan et al.

Summary: The phonon spectra in MoS2 twisted bilayers are renormalized due to ultra-strong coupling between different phonon modes and atomic reconstructions of the moire pattern, providing new insights into moire physics. A low-energy continuum model for phonons has been developed to successfully capture experimental observations and reveal the rapid evolution of phonon spectra over a range of small twist angles. Remarkably, simple optical spectroscopy experiments can offer information on strain and lattice distortions in nanometre-size moire crystals.
