Bioplastics Starch-Based with Additional Fiber and Nanoparticle: Characteristics and Biodegradation Performance: A Review

Rahma Anugrahwidya et al.

Summary: Plastics are widely used by the community, especially as food packaging, due to their good mechanical properties, cheap cost, lightweight and ease of manufacture and application. Biodegradable plastics, such as bioplastics, are gaining attention as they can reduce environmental pollution by utilizing natural resources and promoting biodegradation. Starch-based bioplastics, often reinforced with natural fibers and nanoparticles, are popular materials due to their potential to increase strength and accelerate degradation.

Biomodulation of poly (vinyl alcohol)/starch polymers into composite-based hybridised films: physico-chemical, structural and biocompatibility characterization

Pavan Kumar Dara et al.

Summary: This study aimed to bio-modulate Poly (vinyl alcohol)/Starch (PVA/S) polymers and synthesize composite-based PVA/S hybridised films incorporated with ZnO, TiO2 and gelatin protein hydrolysate components. The prepared films showed improved thermal stability and biocompatibility, making them suitable for therapeutic biomedical research and food industrial applications. The physico-chemical and structural modifications introduced by the composites did not alter the molecular structure of the biopolymer.
