Controlling quantum many-body dynamics in driven Rydberg atom arrays

D. Bluvstein et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that coherent revivals associated with quantum many-body scars can be stabilized by periodic driving, generating a robust subharmonic response akin to discrete timecrystalline order. This finding provides new ways to control complex dynamics in many-body systems and may have potential applications in quantum information science.

Exact Thermalization Dynamics in the Rule 54 Quantum Cellular Automaton

Katja Klobas et al.

Summary: In this study, the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the quantum cellular automaton Rule 54 was examined, revealing the full thermalization dynamics at a microscopic level using simple quantum channels for low-entangled initial states. Analytic formulas for the evolution of local observables and Renyi entropies were provided, showing that Rule 54 does not behave as a simple Markovian bath and exhibits nonequilibrium features of interacting integrable many-body quantum systems. This study offers a rare example where the entire thermalization dynamics can be exactly solved at the microscopic level.

Test of the Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis Based on Local Random Matrix Theory

Shoki Sugimoto et al.

Summary: The study shows that in locally interacting quantum many-body systems, the overwhelming majority of pairs of local Hamiltonians and observables satisfy the ETH with exponentially small fluctuations. The ergodicity of the random matrix ensembles breaks down due to locality.

Undecidability in quantum thermalization

Naoto Shiraishi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the undecidability of thermalization phenomena in isolated quantum many-body systems, even in one-dimensional systems. By constructing a family of Hamiltonians encoding dynamics of a reversible universal Turing machine, it is shown that the fate of a relaxation process can dramatically change depending on whether the Turing machine halts. The result indicates the lack of a general theorem, algorithm, or systematic procedure for determining the presence of thermalization in any given Hamiltonian.
