A mechanistic overview of spinal cord injury, oxidative DNA damage repair and neuroprotective therapies

Jaspreet Kaur et al.

Summary: Despite significant advancements in medical treatment strategies, finding a cure for spinal cord injury (SCI) remains challenging. Oxidative DNA damage is a severe consequence of secondary injury, and understanding the impact of cellular and molecular biology on the pathophysiology of SCI is crucial. Thus, the aim of this review is to bridge the gaps and shed light on the functional repair mechanisms in neurons following injury, as well as investigate the significance of neuroprotective strategies in the current scenario.

Mannose-rich Oligosaccharides-functionalized selenium nanoparticles mediates Macrophage reprogramming and inflammation resolution in ulcerative colitis

Hui Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a bioactive component of mannose-rich oligosaccharides (MRO) was produced and used to functionalize selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) in order to reprogram macrophages and mitigate inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The MRO-functionalized SeNPs showed improved stability and biocompatibility, and effectively suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines in a mouse colitis model. This study not only provides a strategy for functionalizing nanomedicines, but also reveals the mechanism of successful treatment of IBD and other intestinal diseases.

Macrophage-biomimetic porous Se@SiO2 nanocomposites for dual modal immunotherapy against inflammatory osteolysis

Cheng Ding et al.

Summary: The research found that macrophage membrane-coated porous Se@SiO2 nanospheres alleviated LPS-induced inflammatory osteolysis through dual immunomodulatory effect, promoting polarization of macrophages towards the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. These nanoparticles reduced endotoxin levels, neutralized proinflammatory cytokines, and inhibited p65, p38, and ERK signaling pathways, leading to alleviation of the inhibition of osteogenic differentiation caused by proinflammatory cytokines.
