Predictions for axion couplings from ALP cogenesis

Raymond T. Co et al.

Summary: By adding the axion-like particle (ALP) to the Standard Model and considering the field velocity in the early universe, researchers have proposed the ALP cogenesis theory to explain the densities of baryons and dark matter simultaneously, with predicted couplings between ALP and photons, nucleons, and/or electrons. The predicted couplings are orders of magnitude larger than those for the QCD axion and conventional ALP misalignment mechanism for dark matter. As a result, ALP cogenesis is within reach of future experimental ALP searches and dark matter studies.

Lepto-axiogenesis

Raymond T. Co et al.

Summary: A new mechanism for baryogenesis is proposed, utilizing the rotation of the PQ field and the dimension-five operator for Majorana neutrino masses. The study also explores the production of QCD axion dark matter and its connection to baryon asymmetry, as well as the potential signals in rare kaon decays from the radial component of the PQ field.

Gravitational waves and dark photon dark matter from axion rotations

Raymond T. Co et al.

Summary: In the early universe, an axion rotating in field space can generate dark photons via tachyonic instability, leading to explosive particle production and stochastic gravitational waves. This scenario offers a new narrative for dark photon dark matter. The warm dark photons may be detectable in future 21-cm line surveys.

Axion assisted Schwinger effect

Valerie Domcke et al.

Summary: This study highlights an enhancement in the pair production rate of charged fermions in a strong electric field with the presence of a time dependent classical axion-like background field, termed as the axion assisted Schwinger effect. The enhancement is attributed to coupling between fermion spin and momentum induced by the axion velocity. This result has implications for axion cosmology, particularly in axion inflation and axion dark matter detection.
