Plant hormone regulation of abiotic stress responses

Rainer Waadt et al.

Summary: Plant hormones play important roles in abiotic stress responses, regulating gene expression and plant development to adapt and tolerate environmental stresses such as drought and high temperature. Understanding these mechanisms is of great significance for agricultural applications.

Alternate bearing in fruit trees: fruit presence induces polar auxin transport in citrus and olive stem and represses IAA release from the bud

Dor Haim et al.

Summary: In fruit trees, the alternate bearing (AB) phenomenon is influenced by heavy fruit load in one year, which can reduce flowering in the following year. Fruit removal before the flowering induction period can effectively induce flowering by reducing the auxin indoleacetic acid (IAA) content in buds. Fruit presence generates strong polar auxin transport in citrus and olive stems, which decreases upon fruit removal, releasing auxin from the bud and reducing IAA levels in apical meristem, ultimately affecting flowering induction.

Exogenous Strigolactones alleviate KCl stress by regulating photosynthesis, ROS migration and ion transport in Malus hupehensis Rehd

Xiaodong Zheng et al.

Summary: The application of exogenous strigolactone (SL) can protect apple seedlings under KCl stress by maintaining photosynthesis, enhancing enzyme activities, eliminating reactive oxygen species production, promoting proline accumulation, and maintaining osmotic balance. Furthermore, exogenous SL can regulate ion transport to maintain ion homeostasis under KCl stress.

Exogenous melatonin improves the salt tolerance of cotton by removing active oxygen and protecting photosynthetic organs

Dan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that exogenous melatonin (MT) can enhance salt tolerance in cotton seedlings by regulating the photosynthetic system, osmotic modulators, chloroplast, and anatomical structure. Treatment with MT alleviates oxidative damage and ion imbalance caused by salt stress, leading to improved growth and biomass production in plants.

Prohexadione-calcium alleviates saline-alkali stress in soybean seedlings by improving the photosynthesis and up-regulating antioxidant defense

Naijie Feng et al.

Summary: Soil salinization significantly impacts soybean growth and yield. Exogenous Pro-Ca can mitigate damage from saline-alkali stress by improving chlorophyll content, photosynthetic efficiency, and antioxidant defense. Salt-tolerant cultivars show better resilience to saline-alkali stress compared to salt-sensitive ones.
