Effects of Different Nitrogen Forms and Competitive Treatments on the Growth and Antioxidant System of Wedelia trilobata and Wedelia chinensis Under High Nitrogen Concentrations

Ping Huang et al.

Summary: Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth, and its appropriate application can improve plant growth and nutrient use efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of invasive species Wedelia trilobata and its native species Wedelia chinensis under different nitrogen forms and ratios, as well as competitive conditions. Results showed that W. trilobata exhibited better growth and antioxidant defense system under competitive conditions, with significantly higher biomass than W. chinensis. Nitrogen application significantly promoted plant growth and antioxidant enzyme activities, with the ammonium/nitrate ratio of 2:1 showing the best enhancement effect. In conclusion, W. trilobata adapted well to competition through better growth and antioxidant defense system.

Recent Advances in Agronomic and Physio-Molecular Approaches for Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Crop Plants

Talha Javed et al.

Summary: The efficiency of plants using nutrients is determined by environmental and plant intrinsic factors. Nitrogen, among other macronutrients, is crucial for plant growth, global food supply, and environmental health. Improvements in fertilizer methods, such as the use of biochar and customized nano and bio-fertilizers, can enhance nitrogen use efficiency and reduce soil degradation. Precision farming and remote sensing technologies are useful in reducing nitrogen fertilizer application. The interaction of nitrogen with other soil nutrients and the role of root structure architecture are important for nutrient homeostasis and improving nitrogen uptake and transport. Molecular strategies and techniques, such as N transporters and omics, offer promising avenues for studying nitrogen utilization efficiency and advancing plant nutrition for global food security.
