Dynamic Opposition of Histone Modifications

Ana Maria Garzon-Porras et al.

Summary: The concept of dynamic opposition of histone modifications is proposed in this article to explain the requirement of erasers in gene transcription. The authors highlight the importance of HDACs for acetylation balance at superenhancers and KDM5A for H4K3me3 recycling at highly active gene promoters. The authors propose that histone post-translational modifications regulate biomolecular condensate formation and nucleosome turnover and form a short-term memory that informs checkpoints for chromatin engagement by RNA polymerase II.

Histone acetyltransferases MystA and MystB contribute to morphogenesis and aflatoxin biosynthesis by regulating acetylation in fungus Aspergillus flavus

Xuan Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MystA and MystB in Aspergillus flavus play significant roles in regulating conidiation, sclerotia formation, and aflatoxin production, with MystB being particularly important. Additionally, the catalytic domain and catalytic site of Myst are crucial for its acetyltransferase function, and mystB is involved in oxidative detoxification.

The fungal-specific histone acetyltransferase Rtt109 regulates development, DNA damage response, and virulence in Aspergillus fumigatus

Yuanwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study revealed the critical role of the fungal-specific HAT Rtt109 in regulating fungal development and virulence in Aspergillus fumigatus. The acetylation of specific lysines on histone H3 by Rtt109 was shown to affect fungal growth and pathogenicity. Additionally, it was suggested that Rtt109 may regulate fungal development through mechanisms independent of histone acetylation.

Regulation of the Dot1 histone H3K79 methyltransferase by histone H4K16 acetylation

Marco Igor Valencia-Sanchez et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that acetylation of histone H4 can stimulate the activity of yeast Dot1 in a specific manner, which coordinates with histone H2B ubiquitination to affect H3K79 methylation. H4K16ac and H2BUb play crucial roles in histone cross-talk, regulating gene transcription and gene silencing together.
