Summary: AaV1, a mycovirus, has unique features with both 5' cap and 3' poly(A) structures on its genomic segments, as well as specific deletions of dsRNA2. Fungal isolates carrying virions with defective dsRNA2s showed impaired growth and abnormal pigmentation. This makes AaV1 the first dsRNA virus to be identified with these features.

Identification and pathogenicity of Alternaria species associated with leaf blotch disease and premature defoliation

Summary: Leaf blotch caused by Alternaria spp. is a common disease in apple-producing regions, with the apple pathotype being characterized by the production of a host-selective toxin (HST). French orchards were found to have Alternaria isolates belonging to A. arborescens SC or A. alternata, without the apple pathotype present. The pathogenicity test revealed that Golden Delicious apples are more susceptible to Alternaria leaf blotch.
