Chloroplast pH Homeostasis for the Regulation of Photosynthesis

Mai Duy Luu Trinh et al.

Summary: The pH of different compartments in chloroplasts, such as the thylakoid lumen and stroma, is dependent on light. Light induces electron transfer and proton translocation, resulting in acidification and alkalization of the thylakoid lumen and stroma, respectively. Maintaining proper chloroplast pH levels during light and dark phases is crucial for efficient photosynthesis and other metabolic pathways. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of pH control in chloroplasts is important for understanding plant biology.

Nitric oxide-mediated alternative pathway alleviates aluminum-induced programmed cell death in soybean root tips

Junjun Huang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the alternative pathway (AP) in soybean root tips can alleviate aluminum (Al) toxicity, while inhibition of AP can exacerbate Al-induced programmed cell death (PCD). Nitric oxide (NO) plays a negative role in Al-induced PCD, and the alleviating effect of NO on Al-induced PCD can be blocked by AP inhibition.

Effect of alkaline pH and nitrogen starvation on the triacylglycerol (TAG) content, growth, biochemical composition, and fatty acid profile of Auxenochlorella protothecoides KP7

Enver Ersoy Andeden et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the combination of nitrogen starvation and alkaline pH can significantly increase triacylglycerol accumulation in Auxenochlorella protothecoides KP7, leading to lower chlorophyll and protein contents. After prolonged cultivation under the combined stress, triacylglycerol content reached up to 25.01% of the dry cell weight and constituted up to 81.25% of total lipids.
