Novel stress granule-like structures are induced via a paracrine mechanism during viral infection

Valentina Iadevaia et al.

Summary: To adapt to stress conditions like infections, cells have developed stress response pathways and innate immune responses, which result in the formation of stress granules (SGs). SGs play a role in antiviral defense, and viruses need to avoid these responses to continue propagating. This study shows that feline calicivirus (FCV) impairs SG assembly by cleaving the protein G3BP1. Additionally, virus-free supernatant from infected cells can induce the formation of SG-like foci, called paracrine granules, which are linked to antiviral activity.

Structural and Functional Characterization of Host FHL1 Protein Interaction with Hypervariable Domain of Chikungunya Virus nsP3 Protein

Tetyana Lukash et al.

Summary: Decades of insufficient control have led to unprecedented spread of chikungunya virus (CHIKV), with FHL1 identified as a host factor that interacts with CHIKV nsP3, enhancing viral replication but not being essential. FHL1 and CD2AP have overlapping binding sites in CHIKV nsP3 HVD, with additive effects on viral replication.

A Tale of 20 Alphaviruses; Inter-species Diversity and Conserved Interactions Between Viral Non-structural Protein 3 and Stress Granule Proteins

Gwen Nowee et al.

Summary: Alphaviruses infect a variety of hosts, with their non-structural protein nsP3's HVD region showing high variability and conserved motifs across different subgroups. While most alphavirus nsP3s co-locate with G3BP, not all interact with BIN1. Additionally, viruses lacking certain motifs can still interact with FMRP to form cytoplasmic granules.
