Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of the chikungunya outbreak in Ruili City, Yunnan Province, China

Li-Bo Liu et al.

Summary: An outbreak of Chikungunya fever occurred in Ruili, Yunnan Province from September to December 2019, with a total of 112 confirmed cases, including 91 local cases and 21 imported cases. Female patients outnumbered male patients, and common symptoms included joint pain, fever, fatigue, chills, rash, and headache. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the CHIKV strains in this outbreak belonged to the Indian Ocean clade of the East/Central/South African genotype.

Dengue-chikungunya coinfection outbreak in children from Cali, Colombia, in 2018-2019

Jaime E. Castellanos et al.

Summary: A study conducted in a pediatric clinic in Cali, Colombia, identified CHIKV as the arbovirus causing febrile cases in children, potentially leading to double infections. The results emphasize the importance of clinical tests to determine the arbovirus involved in infectious diseases for better treatment and surveillance.

Emergent chikungunya fever and vertical transmission in Yunnan Province, China, 2019

XiaoXiong Yin et al.

Summary: During the 2019 dengue epidemic in Yunnan Province, China, a concurrent outbreak of chikungunya occurred in Ruili city, with three cases of mother-to-child transmission observed. Isolates from 37 serum samples belonged to the Indian Ocean subclade of the East/Central/South African genotype, and the E1 genes of these viruses did not have the A226V mutation.

Dengue and Chikungunya virus co-infection in major metropolitan cities of provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A multi-center study

Summary: Dengue has become endemic in Pakistan with annual recurrence, with different serotypes detected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Co-infection with Chikungunya virus was observed. Comorbidities resulted in longer hospital stay, and diabetes contributed to disease severity. Co-circulation of multiple DENV serotypes and CHIKV infection poses a public health burden and economic losses.
