Dual Metal-Acid Pd-Br Catalyst for Selective Hydrodeoxygenation of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-Dimethylfuran at Ambient Temperature

Dan Wu et al.

Summary: This novel supported metal bifunctional catalyst combines the advantages of promotion and bifunctionality, achieved by pretreating supported palladium catalysts with bromobenzene to create Bronsted acid sites. The catalyst shows unique catalytic properties in hydrodeoxygenation reactions with stable performance, yielding up to 96% at ambient temperature under 5 bar of H-2.

Hydrogenolysis of Lignin-Derived Aromatic Ethers over Heterogeneous Catalysts

Atal Shivhare et al.

Summary: Global temperature rise has led to adverse climate impacts, mainly due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions; Lignin, a renewable resource, can replace aromatic hydrocarbons from fossil sources; Hydrogenolysis reaction has gained significant attention as an effective way for cleavage of lignin-derived aromatic ethers.

Controlling Diphenyl Ether Hydrogenolysis Selectivity by Tuning the Pt Support and H-Donors under Mild Conditions

Chen Zhu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the feasibility of controlling the selectivity of hydrogenolysis products of lignin-derived aryl ethers by tuning the catalyst support and reaction conditions. Pt/γ-Al2O3 and Pt/TiO2 showed high selectivity, with the former exhibiting a higher selectivity towards aromatic products (benzene and phenol) and the latter towards saturated aromatic products (cyclohexane and cyclohexanol) with complete conversion of the starting material. This selectivity control was achieved by manipulating the dehydrogenation activity of the hydrogen source over different catalysts, as confirmed by experimental results and computational simulations.

Lignin Compounds to Monoaromatics: Selective Cleavage of C-O Bonds over a Brominated Ruthenium Catalyst

Dan Wu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a heterogeneous Ru/C catalyst modified by Br atoms for the selective direct cleavage of C-O bonds in diphenyl ether without hydrogenation of aromatic rings. The catalyst achieved a high yield of benzene and phenol as high as 90.3% during depolymerization of lignin, with increased selectivity to mono-aromatics.

Uranyl-Photocatalyzed Hydrolysis of Diaryl Ethers at Ambient Environment for the Directional Degradation of 4-O-5 Lignin

Yilin Zhou et al.

Summary: The uranyl-photocatalyzed hydrolysis of diaryl ethers has been shown to produce two types of phenols at room temperature under normal pressure. The process involves a single electron transfer followed by an oxygen atom transfer process. The use of O-18 labeling has confirmed water as the oxygen source, and the method shows potential for ecofriendly phenol recovery.

Structure-Property Relationships of Pt-Sn Nanoparticles Supported on Al2O3 for the Dehydrogenation of Methylcyclohexane

Kazumasa Murata et al.

Summary: The activity and durability of Pt-Sn/Al2O3 catalysts in the MCH dehydrogenation were found to decrease with an increase in the Sn/Pt ratio. Pt-Sn/Al2O3 catalyst with a Sn/Pt ratio of 2 exhibited the best performance. The dispersion of Pt decreased and structural changes from Pt-Sn clusters to intermetallic nanoparticles were observed with increasing Sn/Pt ratio.
