Impact of dams and climate change on suspended sediment flux to the Mekong delta

Gianbattista Bussi et al.

Summary: The livelihoods of millions of people living in the world's deltas are deeply interconnected with sediment dynamics, however, large dams threaten the supply of sediment from upstream. Dam construction has led to historical sediment flux declines and will increase sediment trapping in the future, potentially causing damaging consequences for local livelihoods and ecosystems.

Using Remote Sensing and Multivariate Statistics in Analyzing the Relationship between Land Use Pattern and Water Quality in Tien Giang Province, Vietnam

Nguyen Thanh Giao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of land use patterns on surface water quality in Tien Giang Province using remote sensing and statistical approaches. The results showed that water quality was influenced by total suspended solids, nutrients, organic matters, and ions, with higher levels of pollutants in the dry season. Residential and rice cultivation were found to play major roles in causing water impairment, with aquaculture land use patterns showing significantly larger water pollutant concentrations. The findings provide scientific evidence for future water quality management.

EVALUATING SURFACE WATER QUALITY AND WATER MONITORING PARAMETERS IN THE TIEN RIVER, VIETNAMESE MEKONG DELTA

Thanh Giao Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the surface water quality of the Tien River in An Giang province, Vietnam from 2011 to 2019, identified key water quality parameters and pollution sources to be monitored. The results showed lower DO concentration, exceeded limits in TSS, BOD, PO43--P, and coliforms, while pH, temperature, and NO3--N were within regulations, with seasonal fluctuations in monitoring parameters. Further research is needed to determine specific pollution sources for appropriate treatment solutions.
