Decolourisation of toxic azo dye Fast Red E by three bacterial strains: process optimisation and toxicity assessment

Ramesh S. Masarbo et al.

Summary: This study presents the decolourisation of azo dye Fast Red E by three bacterial strains. The bacterial consortium of all the three strains achieved a decolourisation efficiency of 93% within 18 hours and could decolourise up to 800 mg/L of the dye. The breakdown products of the azo dye were identified and the toxicity of the decolourised medium was significantly reduced.

Effective adsorptive removal of dyes and heavy metal using graphene oxide based Pre-treated with NaOH/H2SO4 rubber seed shells synthetic graphite Precursor: Equilibrium Isotherm, kinetics and thermodynamic studies

Marlia M. Hanafiah et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different pre-treatment methods on the properties of graphene oxide (GO) and its adsorption capacity for dyes and heavy metal ions. The results show that GO pre-treated with NaOH has a higher porous surface area and oxygen content. Both GO samples exhibit excellent adsorption capacity, with maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of 299.38 mg/g, 311.54 mg/g, and 107.65 mg/g for CR, MB, and Cd (II) respectively. The experimental data fit well with the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic. GO-N shows better adsorption performance and can be considered as a promising and cost-effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes and metal ions from industrial wastewater.
