Dynamic Adsorption Characteristics of Phosphorus Using MBCQ

Qihui Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, biochar microspheres (MBCQ) were prepared using powdery biochar from Hydrocotyle vulgaris as raw material and sodium alginate as a granular carrier. The dynamic adsorption characteristics of phosphorus by MBCQ in the adsorption column were investigated, and the influences of particle size, initial phosphorus concentration, flow rate, and column height on the breakthrough curve were analyzed. The results showed that 3-millimeter particles had the optimal adsorption properties, and flow velocity significantly impacted breakthrough time and length of mass transfer.

Preparation of structured biochar, its adosrption capacity of N and P and its characterization

Liang Fanfan et al.

Summary: This study prepared structured biochar (SC) using a mixture of cattail-sludge and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and investigated its adsorption capacity for phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) in water. The optimal parameters for SC preparation were determined using a single factor experimental method. The results showed that SC exhibited favorable and spontaneous adsorption for P and N, with a major role played by chemical adsorption. The adsorption mechanism involved pore filling, electrostatic attraction, and hydrogen bonding. These findings provide insights into the resource utilization of cattails and sludge, as well as the recycling and reuse of biochar, and offer a basis for selecting materials for the treatment of eutrophic water bodies.

Preparation and Characterization of Novel Magnesium Composite/Walnut Shells-Derived Biochar for As and P Sorption from Aqueous Solutions

Vladimir Fristak et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the addition of magnesium can enhance the sorption efficiency of biochar for phosphorus and arsenic. A Mg-modified walnut shell-derived biochar was synthesized, showing significant improvements in the removal of As and P from aqueous solutions, with sorption capacities increased by up to 10 times for As and 20 times for P. The newly synthesized Mg-composite biochar also showed promising potential for remediation of contaminated waterbodies by removing over 90% of P from real wastewater samples.

Experimental Study of the Adsorption of Nitrogen and Phosphorus by Natural Clay Minerals

Tingyu Fan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of four natural clay minerals for adsorbing NH4+ and PO43- from wastewater, showing that the adsorption efficiency for phosphate was better than that for ammonia nitrogen. Bentonite and kaolinite exhibited higher adsorption capacities for ammonia nitrogen, while zeolite and attapulgite showed higher capacities for phosphate.

Kinetics, Isotherms and Adsorption-Desorption Behavior of Phosphorus from Aqueous Solution Using Zirconium-Iron and Iron Modified Biosolid Biochars

Md. Aminur Rahman et al.

Summary: The study showed that zirconium-iron and iron modified biosolid biochars have high adsorption capacity for removing phosphorus from water, which can be described by pseudo-second order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm model. Through experimental verification, it was found that these biochars can reduce costs by being reused in the process of removing phosphorus from wastewater through regeneration.

Surfactant Adsorption Isotherms: A Review

Shams Kalam et al.

Summary: This paper provides a brief overview of surfactant adsorption isotherms on rock surfaces, focusing on adsorption theories and commonly used models like Langmuir and Freundlich. More complex adsorption isotherms such as Redlich-Peterson and Sips are also discussed, which involve three parameters and can help select the appropriate model for experimental data.

Review of phosphate removal from water by carbonaceous sorbents

Ismail W. Almanassra et al.

Summary: Phosphate is a major pollutant that leads to eutrophication in water bodies, and adsorption technology is widely used to reduce phosphate levels in water. Carbon-based materials and their composites are commonly used for phosphate removal due to their high phosphate sorption capacity.

Adsorption Studies on Magnetic Nanoparticles Functionalized with Silver to Remove Nitrates from Waters

Yesica Vicente-Martinez et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel procedure using silver-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles as an adsorbent for the treatment of contaminated water with high concentrations of nitrates. Experimental conditions were analyzed to achieve the highest adsorption efficiency for different concentrations of nitrates in water, with the adsorbent characterized before and after adsorption. The method showed high selectivity for nitrate ions and was successfully applied to real samples of seawater.
