Multilines Imaging Approach for Mini-UAV Radar Imaging System

Summary: This letter presents an imaging strategy using a Mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (M-UAV) radar system to effectively manage data collected on multiple lines. The strategy, called multilines imaging approach (MIA), utilizes 2-D reconstruction and interpolation to provide a 3-D representation. The effectiveness of MIA is evaluated using real data collected at archaeological sites in Italy.

Drone-Borne Ground-Penetrating Radar for Snow Cover Mapping

Summary: Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) mounted on a drone was tested for mapping snow thickness in mountainous regions. The system showed good reliability and performance in monitoring snow depth. Low snow density limits the detectability of the air-snow interface, but this can be overcome by using rangefinder data. Adequate knowledge of the devices is necessary for effective drone-borne GPR acquisition.

Summary: This research presents an innovative methodology for subsurface investigation of a quarry excavation area in Falconara Albanese, Italy, incorporating photogrammetry, drone technology, and GPR data acquisition. The method is capable of detecting subsurface fractures at a quarry site by a relatively fast and cost-effective procedure. Results demonstrate the applicability of the method for identification of areas more suitable for railway ballast production.
