Assessing the effects of climate variability and vegetation conversion on variations of net primary productivity in the mountainous area of North China

Dandan Wang et al.

Summary: Net primary productivity (NPP) in the mountainous area of North China shows spatial-temporal variations influenced by climate variability and vegetation conversion. Different vegetation types exhibit varied trends in annual NPP, with precipitation and Dust Storm Index having a higher correlation with NPP.

Decoupling Relationship between Urbanization and Carbon Sequestration in the Pearl River Delta from 2000 to 2020

Xuechen Li et al.

Summary: Rapid urbanization has a significant impact on the ecological environment, and net primary productivity (NPP) is an effective indicator for measuring urban vegetation growth and ecosystem carbon sequestration capacity. By studying the Pearl River Delta region, this research analyzed the contributions of human activities and climate change to NPP, and compared the coordinated development of socioeconomic factors and NPP. This study provides important foundations for formulating urban low-carbon development measures.

Changes in Ecosystems and Ecosystem Services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area since the Reform and Opening Up in China

Xuege Wang et al.

Summary: This study found significant changes in ecosystem structure in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with vast construction land sprawl and extensive farmland loss. The estimated ecosystem services value (ESV) of the area showed an overall decreasing trend, primarily supported by forest ecosystems and water body ecosystems.

Quantifying the contributions of human activities and climate change to vegetation net primary productivity dynamics in China from 2001 to 2016

Wenyan Ge et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the relative contributions of climate change and human activities to net primary productivity (NPP) in China using a two-step methodology based on RESTREND. Results showed a significant increase in NPP during the study period, with both climate change and human activities playing favorable roles in vegetation growth. Climate factors contributed 60.06% to vegetation changes, while human activities contributed 39.94% to NPP. Precipitation, temperature, solar radiation, and other climatic factors all had varying impacts on vegetation growth in different regions of China.

A Time-Series Approach to Detect Urbanized Areas Using Biophysical Indicators and Landsat Satellite Imagery

Yang Zhang

Summary: This study proposes a new time-series approach for detecting urbanization processes, analyzing urbanization trends through the spatiotemporal dynamics of specific biophysical indicators, and successfully applying it to Chinese cities. The method is highly accurate, does not require ancillary data, and is suitable for adaptation to other regions.
