Enhanced adhesion between PEEK and stainless-steel mesh in resistance welding of CF/PEEK composites by various surface treatments

Xuekuan Li et al.

Summary: Surface treatments on stainless-steel mesh reinforced poly(ether-ether-ketone) heating elements can significantly improve adhesion with continuous carbon fiber reinforced PEEK composites, with silane grafting being the most suitable method for resistance-welded CF/PEEK joints. The interfacial bonding mechanism of CF/PEEK joints with silane grafted SSM involves mechanical interlocking leading to improved adhesion.

The effect of cooling rate on resistance-welded CF/PEEK joints

Xuekuan Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that joints with lower cooling rates exhibited better mechanical properties, higher crystallinity, and more pronounced transcrystallinity. Stainless steel wires in the HEs acted as nucleating agents, promoting high-density nucleation sites and accelerating transcrystallinity formation at lower cooling rates.
