Application of chitosan in the form of textile: production and sourcing

Xue Luo et al.

Summary: Chitosan material is attracting attention from the textile industry due to its multiple functions, but its special properties may limit its application. Concerns and challenges related to chitosan include market recognition, differences between chitosan, chitin and seaweed fibers, differences in antibacterial post-treatment, testing standards, antimicrobial and antibacterial treatment in downstream production, and fuzzy concepts of users. This article focuses on comparing testing standards and reviewing existing forms of textile chitosan products, fabrication process, and evaluation methods to assess their feasibility in application. A product development process flow is provided to guide production and sourcing.

Some Well-Known Alginate and Chitosan Modifications Used in Adsorption: A Review

Asmaa Benettayeb et al.

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of using alginate and chitosan as biosorbents for water treatment. It also reviews various modifications and applications of these biosorbents, and critically discusses the criteria for selecting the best biosorbents, their effectiveness, and the proposed mechanism of adsorption. The paper addresses the question of why these adsorbents need modification before use.

High oxygen barrier chitosan films neutralized by alkaline nanoparticles

Urska Jancic et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles as a neutralisation agent for chitosan films, resulting in stable and high-performance films. The films were obtained by facile casting method of neat CS or CS-Mg(OH)2 dispersions without the use of cross-linkers and plasticizers.

Chitosan Nanoparticles Functionalized Viscose Fabrics as Potentially Durable Antibacterial Medical Textiles

Matea Korica et al.

Summary: This research introduced two pretreatments of viscose fabrics, oxidizing with TEMPO and coating with TOCN, to enhance the washing durability of antibacterial properties of chitosan nanoparticles functionalized fabrics. The pretreatments improved the antimicrobial activity against S. aureus even after five washing cycles and preserved antibacterial activity against E. coli with NCS + Zn functionalized pretreated viscose fabrics after one washing cycle.
