Lifetime risk of diabetes in metropolitan cities in India

Shammi Luhar et al.

Summary: The study estimated the lifetime risk of developing diabetes and diabetes-free life expectancy in metropolitan cities in India among different populations based on sex, age, and BMI. It found that women generally have a higher lifetime risk of diabetes across their lifespan, and obese Indians have the highest lifetime risk. Preventing diabetes among urban Indians of all ages is an urgent national priority, especially with the increasing obesogenic environments in the country.

Summary: A study in the Danish population found that while improvements in disease burden have occurred at the individual level for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the increasing number of patients with type 2 diabetes has contributed to a large increase in the total lost lifetime at the population level over the past two decades.
