Conformality and self-duality of Nf=2 QED3

Zhijin Li

Summary: We study the infrared (IR) phase of a three-dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED(3)) coupled to two-component Dirac fermions with N-f = 2 flavors, which has been a subject of controversy for a long time. Our focus is on the four-point correlator of monopole operators that have a unit topological charge of U(1)(t). By analyzing the O(4) -> SU(2)(f) x U(1)(t) branching rules based on an O(4) symmetric positive structure in the monopole four-point crossing equations, we use the conformal bootstrap method to derive nonperturbative constraints on the conformal field theory (CFT) data and test the conformality and self-duality of N-f = 2 QED(3). Specifically, we find that the CFT data obtained from previous lattice simulations can be ruled out when irrelevant assumptions are introduced in the spectrum, indicating that the IR phase of N-f = 2 QED(3) is not conformal.

A note on the large charge expansion in 4d CFT

Gabriel Cuomo

Summary: This study discusses universal predictions of large charge expansion in conformal field theories with U(1) symmetry, particularly in four-dimensional theories. It was found that there is a universal Q(0) log Q correction in four dimensions, and the first subleading correction to the OPE coefficient was computed in both three and four dimensions.

Monopole hierarchy in transitions out of a Dirac spin liquid

Eric Dupuis et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hierarchy of monopole operators at quantum critical points in two-dimensional systems, focusing on the confinement transition in quantum electrodynamics. By expanding at large N, the scaling dimension of monopoles with different magnetic spins is determined, showing the organization of monopoles in the symmetry group at the critical points.

Stiefel Liquids: Possible Non-Lagrangian Quantum Criticality from Intertwined Orders

Liujun Zou et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of quantum liquids called Stiefel liquids was proposed, exhibiting large emergent symmetries, a cascade structure, and nontrivial quantum anomalies. It was argued that Stiefel liquids with N > 6 are non-Lagrangian and can be realized in frustrated quantum spin systems through the intertwinement between noncoplanar magnetic orders and valence-bond-solid orders. This challenges traditional approaches in determining the emergence of non-Lagrangian states from specific UV systems based on the matching of quantum anomalies with constraints from Lieb-Schultz-Mattis theorems.

Convexity of charged operators in CFTs and the weak gravity conjecture

Ofer Aharony et al.

Summary: The study proposes a new approach to the weak gravity conjecture and attempts to compare it with conformal field theory. They found that in all tested examples, the conjecture seems to hold true, but they have not yet been able to understand why this is the case from the perspective of conformal field theory.
