Enrichment of deoxynivalenol and establishment of online early warning treatment system for drinking water

Qianyu Liu et al.

Summary: An online monitoring and early warning system was established to detect drinking water pollution caused by deoxynivalenol (DON) and investigated different experimental conditions, including the use of powdered activated carbon to remove DON. The study found that DON can be effectively removed from drinking water by powdered activated carbon, and a dynamic threshold was established to detect the toxin.

Environmental risks to freshwater organisms from the mycotoxins deoxynivalenol and zearalenone using Species Sensitivity Distributions

Emily J. Eagles et al.

Summary: This study investigated the acute toxicity of two common mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZON), on a variety of freshwater organisms. The results showed that crustaceans were the most sensitive to DON, while cnidarians and molluscs were more sensitive to ZON. Combining these novel invertebrate toxicity results provides valuable information for the analysis of Species Sensitivity Distributions.

Mechanism of validamycin A inhibiting DON biosynthesis and synergizing with DMI fungicides against Fusarium graminearum

Chuanhong Bian et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that both FgNTH and FgATH are targets of validamycin A (VMA) in Fusarium graminearum, with FgNTH being the main target. Deficiency in FgNTH and FgATH affects the sensitivity to VMA, highlighting their importance in vegetative growth and sexual reproduction. Additionally, the interaction between FgNTH and FgPK, along with the regulation of FgCYP51A and FgCYP51B by FgNTH, contributes to the inhibition of deoxynivalenol (DON) biosynthesis and enhances sensitivity to demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicides.

The Distribution of Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium asiaticum Causing Fusarium Head Blight of Wheat in Relation to Climate and Cropping System

Fei Xu et al.

Summary: The study in the main wheat production area of China found that climate factors, rather than cropping systems, had a greater impact on the relative prevalence of Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium asiaticum. Environmental conditions during the overwintering period appeared to be more important than those during other growth stages.

Fate of deoxynivalenol (DON) and impact on the soil microflora and soil fauna

Summary: Fusarium graminearum, a plant-pathogenic fungus causing Fusarium head blight in cereals, contaminates grains with mycotoxins like deoxynivalenol (DON), which disappear over time in soil, temporarily impacting soil communities but not benefiting the survival of the fungus.
