Effect of Microstructures on the Shear Strength of Larix kaempferi

Mingyue Li et al.

Summary: The microstructures and properties differences between earlywood and latewood in Larix kaempferi affect its shear strength. The shear failure mode in earlywood is tear destruction, while in latewood it is intercellular layer destruction. Earlywood has thin cell walls, large MFA, and low density, while latewood has thicker tracheids, smaller MFA, and higher density. Therefore, shear failure mainly occurs in earlywood due to its characteristics.
