No Evidence for Constitutive Innate Immune Senescence in a Longitudinal Study of a Wild Bird

Michael J. Roast et al.

Summary: Research has shown that in tropical passerines, immune indexes do not exhibit age-related changes within individuals, but there are decreases in natural antibodies and increases in heterophil-lymphocyte ratios between individuals. However, selective disappearance cannot adequately explain the age effects between individuals, and longitudinal models could not better explain the data than cross-sectional analyses.
