Chemical-mechanical transformation of the expansion effect for nonuniform steel corrosion and its application in predicting the concrete cover cracking time

Yidong Xu et al.

Summary: A computational framework was proposed to study the corrosion resistance of concrete structures by transforming the chemical action of nonuniform steel corrosion into mechanical action. A prediction model of cover cracking was proposed and validated through experiments.

Numerical simulation and experiment on the coupled effects of macro-cell corrosion and multi-ion equilibrium with pseudo structural concrete

Zhao Wang et al.

Summary: Corrosion of reinforcing bars in structural concrete, classified as either micro-cell or macro-cell corrosion, was numerically evaluated in this study by incorporating the electrical field and multi-ion kinetics in the electrolyte. The space-averaged simulation method was adopted, and experimental validation with pseudo concrete materials was conducted to verify the reliability of the numerical simulation, showing satisfactory correlation.

Effect of DC stray current on rebar corrosion in cracked segment of shield tunnel

Hao Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, a calculation model was established to investigate rebar corrosion induced by stray direct current in the cracked segment of a shield tunnel. A full-scale test was designed to verify the accuracy of the model. The results show that the rebar corrosion rate in the segment is related to the input mode and the distance from the current input location.

Effect of non-uniform corrosion on the cracking propagation of the RC specimens

Gang Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that non-uniform corrosion of mild steel reinforcement can result in two types of cracking paths in the concrete cover, including corrosion-induced cracks along the radius and branches in the secant direction within the corrosion zone. Additionally, the aggregate of the concrete significantly influences the propagation of the cracking path.

Nanoporous Amorphous Fe78Si9B13 Alloys for Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Media

Fei Chu et al.

Summary: Corrosion treatment on amorphous Fe78Si9B13 alloy creates nanoporous structure, significantly enhancing the performance of alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and showing excellent cycling performances. The nanoscale columnar structure formed on the surface of the corroded sample effectively inhibits the increase range of the polarization resistance of the alloy after 1000 CV cycles.
