Modeling electronic and optical properties of III-V quantum dots-selected recent developments

Alexander Mittelstaedt et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of selected quantum dot systems were investigated using the multi-band k·p method and compared to the empirical tight-binding algorithm. The newly developed linear combination of quantum dot orbitals method was also discussed. The focus was on the role of antimony incorporation in InGaAs/GaAs submonolayer QDs and In1-xGaxAsySb1-y/GaP QDs, as well as the theory and prospect of room temperature lasing in QD-based quantum cascade lasers.

The mechanical property and micro-mechanism of nanoparticle-contained graphene foam materials under uniaxial tension

Muhammad Bilal Khan et al.

Summary: A coarse-grained NP-GrFs model was established to study the mechanical response of NP-GrFs under uniaxial tension and the effects of nanoparticle size and volume fraction. The study found that the initial modulus and tensile strength depend on the size and volume fraction of nanoparticles, and both could increase by almost an order of magnitude. The study also identified two main enhancing mechanisms, increased adhesion between neighbor sheets by nanoparticles and homogenized stress due to the extrusion of nanoparticles.
