Preferential Activation of Unique Motor Cortical Networks With Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: A Review of the Physiological, Functional, and Clinical Evidence

George M. Opie et al.

Summary: Varying current direction can recruit different neuronal populations with unique functional and clinically relevant characteristics. Further research characterizing the I-wave circuits activated with different current directions is needed to develop interventions that can modulate specific intracortical circuits.

Classification accuracy of TMS for the diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment

Alberto Benussi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of a Random Forest classifier on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation measures in Mild Cognitive Impairment patients. The results showed high classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores in differentiating various neurodegenerative disorders, suggesting that TMS could be a useful screening tool in clinical practice for early detection of dementia.

Cortical Plasticity and Interneuron Recruitment in Adolescents Born to Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Jago M. Van Dam et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between neuroplastic responses and I-wave recruitment in adolescents exposed to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). It was found that recruitment of late I-waves was related to stronger LTD-like neuroplastic responses to cTBS. Unlike in adults, there were no significant differences in these variables in GDM-exposed adolescents. Exposure to GDM does not appear to significantly impair synaptic plasticity or interneuron recruitment in adolescents.
